As the world’s population continues to rise, we are going to start seeing more and more consequences of it. It’s also going to be interesting to see the results of our population having much longer lifespans than at any other point in human history. Here are some very thought-provoking issues, and even benefits, of the rising population we’ve been seeing for the last couple of centuries.

1. Business And Business Analytics Will Change

As life expectancy increases, business analytics will have to change to adapt to changing demographics. Not only will businesses have more older consumers, but people will also need to use their products for longer. Products marketed to senior citizens are already very prevalent, and will only become more so the more seniors there are. People will also spend more of their lives in retirement, which is also something business analytics will need to adapt to.

2. The Rise In Demand For Healthcare

The more people there are and the longer they live, the more demand there will be for healthcare. In the United States right now, the healthcare industry is growing at a very rapid pace and having new burdens placed on it mostly due to the generation known as the Baby Boomers. The Baby Boomers are a very large generation that is now aging, and as people live longer they’re going to need more access to long-term care facilities and specialized health care workers.

3. The Necessity Of More Sustainable Living

With the population not only living longer but also rising rather exponentially, people are going to have to start living more sustainable lives. This will include not wasting food or water, using more sustainable forms of energy, using more sustainable methods of farming and perhaps shifting diets to utilize different foods. Luckily, the cost to start using solar power has decreased by approximately 60% in the last decade.

4. Greater Knowledge And Experience

As people live longer, the collective knowledge of humanity is only going to get greater. People will have more of their lives to have experiences and contribute to society, whether this is through scientific discovery, literary masterpieces or simply their own experiences shared on blogs. This will only serve to increase the collective knowledge of humanity to a greater degree, and hopefully move us forward at a faster pace.
Thanks to a rapidly growing and aging population, big changes are coming to our world. Some are very bad and will need to be carefully managed, while others are going to have benefits, some of which are not yet even known. Everyone from healthcare professionals to business analysts to everyone else are going to notice the effects of this, and at the end of the day we’re all going to have to adapt as our world and lifestyles change.
