Commuting to work is something the large majority of working people (me included) can’t avoid. It costs us time and money. Not to mention it could be quite stressful. Here are some tips that will not only help you save cash, but also reduce the stress and make your day more exciting.
- Use public transportation whenever is possible. This way you will be able to save money and help the environment. Also, you could utilize your time better by reading a book, making important calls, checking and answering emails.
- Use personal electric transportation devices. You can choose from a bunch of options, such as electric skateboards, e-bikes, and electric scooters. A good example is Linky Innovation. They are fun to use and you can forget about traffic jams.
- Maintain your car properly to save money on fuel. For your car to run smoothly, it is important to regularly change air filters and motor oil. Also, keep an eye on the tire pressure.
- Save on gas by using loyalty cards offered by a lot of the gas stations and grocery stores. You know the proverb “A penny saved is a penny earned”. Over time the savings will add up.
- Carpooling is a great option. It is good for the environment and your wallet. The people who could get the most of it, are those who live in places with limited transit service.
- Forget about the old school warm-up of your car on winter days. Modern cars don’t need it. It only wastes gas and dumps more CO2 emissions into the environment.
- Your air conditioner will suck all of the fuel in the tank if you don’t use it frugally. When you are driving slowly (under 60 mph), just open your windows. This will be enough to cool you down.
- Proper driving is a “must” when it comes to saving money on gas. Don’t accelerate and break excessively and don’t drive over the speed limit. Instead, accelerate slowly and use the brakes more efficiently.
- Be informed and avoid traffic jams. Check the traffic report on the news and avoid rush hours. Sitting in traffic causes more wasted time and burned gas.
- Get rid of all the junk in your boot. Lighter car equals better gas mileage. It is a good idea to clean your car once in a while.
- If you are paying to park closer to work, consider parking somewhere where it is free. After that, you could walk to work or use some of the personal electric transportation devices, mentioned above.
- If your job is near your home, you can walk (when the weather is ok). This is a great way to exercise and to prepare yourself physically and mentally for the busy and stressful day ahead of you.
- Cycling is another way to commute. By using your bicycle you will save money, be healthy, and help the environment.
- Use mobile apps that will tell you which gas stations around you have the cheapest gas, or if there is a traffic jam on the roads you are using to go to work.
